Wastewater Collection and Treatment

Morris Associates has performed design of new and upgraded facilities for both small and large wastewater systems. Design of wastewater collection and treatment is a large component of our business. Ensuring that these facilities are constructed in conformance to plans and specifications, and completed on time and on budget, is critical to the success of the project. We have provided construction inspection and administration / management services for projects designed by our staff and for projects designed by others. We have also provided construction certification for health department approvals for contractors and institutional clients.
Hopewell Hamlet

  • Highland STP Upgrade – Highland, NY
    • Analyzed plant data, equipment, and operator comments to determine best option for upgrade.
    • Design for modifications to the existing wastewater treatment facility to increase capacity from 1.25 MGD to 1.75 MGD.
    • Prepared detailed plans and specifications for the upgrade work, including improvements for screening and grit removal, primary clarifiers, rotating biological contactors (RBC), anaerobic sludge digestion and UV disinfection.
    • Performed inspection and construction administration services for the STP upgrade work.
  • Expansion Of Arlington Wastewater Facility – Town of Poughkeepsie, NY
    • Design for upgrade of an existing activated sludge wastewater treatment facility from 4.0 MGD to 5.0 MGD. Project design includes the design of the entire facility to increase its capacity by 1MGD.
    • Upgrade included site upgrades, process equipment replacement and upgrades, new piping installation, new and replacement pumps, concrete repair, a new building, new electrical service and electrical and HVAC related work.
    • Support for funding of projects utilizing Clean Water State Revolving Loan Funds (CWSRF).
  • Greenport Wastewater Facility Upgrade – Greenport, NY
    • Design for modifications to the existing wastewater treatment facility to increase capacity from 0.83 MGD to 1.35 MGD.
    • Prepared detailed plans and specifications for the upgrade work, including improvements for screening and grit removal, primary treatment, sequencing batch reactors, sludge digestion, dewatering belt press and UV disinfection.
    • Performed inspection and construction administration services for the STP upgrade work.
  • Hopewell Hamlet Sewer District – East Fishkill, NY
    • Design for a new 500,000 GPD wastewater treatment facility, 20,000 lineal feet of new collection system piping, and six (6) new pump stations.
    • Prepared separate detailed plans and specifications for the new facilities, including screening anoxic tanks, aeration tanks with upflow clarifiers, microscreen filtration, flow measurement and UV disinfection for the wastewater treatment facility.
    • Performed inspection and construction administration services for all of the new facilities.
  • Red Hook Commons Senior Housing – Red Hook, NY
    • Design of a new 25,000 gpd wastewater treatment facility, new collection system and a new pump station.
    • Preparation of detailed plans and specifications for the new facility including flow equalization, anoxic tanks, aeration tanks with upflow clarifiers, rapid gravity sand filters, UV disinfection, post aeration tank, sludge holding tank and odor control.
    • Performed inspection services during the construction phase.
  • Bard College Wastewater Treatment Facility – Red Hook, NY
    • Evaluation of an existing 100,000 GPD activated sludge treatment facility including a Plant Capacity Analysis, Process Component Assessment, Process Evaluation, Proposed Replacement/Improvements.
    • Evaluate modification and changing treatment technology methods.
    • Design of a retrofit/modification of the existing facility to convert the facility into a Rotating Biological Contactor and to expand the treatment capacity to 200,000 GPD.
    • The improvements included conversion of existing concrete contact tanks into flow equalizations with automated controls, and stair step aeration system that providing post aerations prior to discharge into a classified stream without the need of mechanical aerators.
    • Preparation of detailed plans and specifications for the new facility including New headworks (bar screen, flow splitting, and flow equalization), replacement of primary clarifier chains and flights, new RBC units, rectangular final clarifiers, aerobic digesters, and sludge holding tank. Liquid disinfection, and post aeration tank.
    • Performed inspection and contract administration services during the construction phase.
